How to Play Word of Thoth: A Comprehensive Guide

Welcome to the comprehensive guide on how to play Word of Thoth, the exciting and fast-paced card game from designer Ted Alspach. In this guide, we'll go over everything you need to know in order to start playing the game, from the basic rules to more advanced strategies. So let's get started!

The Basic Rules

In Word of Thoth, players are attempting to create words using cards in their hands. The player who can create the most words at the end of the round wins that round. The game is played over a set number of rounds, with the player who has won the most rounds at the end of the game winning the game itself.

To begin a round, each player is dealt seven cards. The player then selects two of these cards and sets them in front of them as their "playing hand". The remaining five cards are placed back into the deck and are not used for that round.

The player on the left goes first and must play one of their playing cards into the middle of the table. They then draw one card from the deck and add it to their hand. The next player then does the same, playing one card and drawing one card. This continues until both players have no cards left in their hand. At this point, both players select one of their two played cards and add it to their scoring pile. If either player has formed a word using those two cards, they also score points equal to the length of that word (see Scoring below). Finally, both players draw back up to four cards, setting aside any extra cards they drew this round. Play then passes to the left and a new round begins.

The game is won by either scoring enough points or by winning a certain number of rounds as stated in the intro. When counting up scores dont forget basic punctuation symbols like . , : - etc as WORDS not just letters ! eg My cat sat on top of : 8pts

Winning Rounds

There are three ways a player can win a round: creating a word with all seven cards in their hand, creating a word with six cards in their hand plus any played onto the table thus far, or playing all seven letters in a single turn (termed a "bingo"). If at any point a player cannot play without fouling (see below), they automatically lose that round regardless of how many points they have scored up until that point.

Scoring

In order to score points for a word, it must be composed entirely of letter tiles taken from your two played cards only – any tiles that were drawn but not played do not count towards your score. Words may be spelled out horizontally or vertically – diagonally adjacent words do not score additional points. The value of each letter is determined by its place in the alphabet; A is worth 1 point, B is worth 2 points, etc., down to Z which is worth 10 points. When scoring words, multiply together all letter values in that word for its total score (eg: CAT = 3×1 + 1×3 = 7pts). Consecutive duplicate letters (eg: AAA) are also multiplied together (3×3 = 9pts), as are triple letters (3×3×3 = 27pts). As mentioned earlier, if either player forms a word using those two played cards plus any others already on the table, they also score points equal to the length of that word (eg: WORD = 5pts).

The following example shows how scoring would work for various words: CARD = 1 pt CARDS = 2 pts DARE = 4 pts DARES = 8 pts READ = 3 pts EDIT = 5 pts SUITED = 7 pts

Player one plays CART & DOGLU resulting in CART being worth 5pts & DOGLU being worth 11pts for a total of 16pts added totheir score pile . Player two plays ANGER & LATE resulting in ANGER being worth 4pts & LATE being worth 3pts fora totalof 7pts addedto their scorepile . At this point , eachplayer has used all7cards fromtheirhand so drawback up totwo additionalcards .

Words vs Points Versus Playing All 7 Cards

As noted earlier , when both players have no cardsleftin hand , both selectoneoftheirplayedcardsandadditto akickingpoint(thispointissharedbybothplayers) . Whicheverplayerfirstplaysallsevenoftheircardswins theroundandthatplayer'skickingpointbecomesastartingpointforthenextround . It doesn't matter whether you spell out lots offancywordsorjustplayasmuch

Word of Thoth Betting Goes Global: Online Casino Receives International Gaming License

Online casino Bet on Thoth has announced that it has received an international gaming license, which will allow it to operate in jurisdictions around the world.

The Malta-based online casino has been licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority, which is one of the most respected gambling regulatory bodies in the world.

"This licensing is a real milestone for us and underlines our commitment to providing our players with a safe and secure online gaming experience," said a spokesperson for Bet on Thoth.

The casino will now be able to offer its services to players in countries such as the United Kingdom, Spain, and Italy, as well as other European jurisdictions. It also plans to expand into new markets in the near future.

Bet on Thoth is one of a growing number of casinos that are opting to receive an international gaming license rather than limiting their operations to a single country. This allows them to target a larger player base and increases the likelihood of attracting high-value customers.

It also provides increased assurances that the casino is complying with all gambling regulations in those jurisdictions. This can be vitally important, especially in light of recent crackdowns on unlicensed online casinos by authorities in a number of countries.
